Gmail to Trash not Archive in Apple Mail

incoming Google gmail is being delivered to apple mail app trash folde instead of the archive folder. This started around 1.13.26 on MacBook Air Intel 2020 running OS16.7.3 which I can't update to Tahoe OS

How do I stop this? Should I move the "deleted" message into the "archive" folder to to retrain the Google mail survey where it should be delivered?
