Possibly hacked? Phone heating, network paused after unsecure link

Hi hello, I don't know if I've been hacked or something :')

I copied a link from an unsecure website to share with someone (stupid, I know. but I've been using the site no problem and even shared it once before and nothing happened so I got gullible), and when I sent a message it just wouldn't send out. I tried refreshing but nothing changed, then I went to one of my tabs and nothing would load and my phone started heating up. I panicked for a moment and then shut down my phone for a minute.

When it turned on, I made a quick search and got a notification that my device has been paused and that I'd have to go to xfinity xfi to resume access to network. While there isn't any more latency, the warmth of my phone is scaring me and the battery seems to be going down as per usual, maybe a bit quicker but that could just be my worry making me overthink.

I've changed my apple ID password, removed saved payment methods and have not un-paused my device. I'm thinking of resetting just to be extra sure and want to know if there's anything else I could do if it's possible that my device has been compromised.

The message of your device being paused on the Xfinity xFi network has nothing to do with a network security or even accessing an unsecured site. That is due to the parental controls features of the Xfinity service and there have been many reports on the Xfinity website where a glitch causes a device to be paused even without the controls and restarting the router is what resolves the problem. That is also why the message would not send.

No your device has not been compromised or hacked. Your phone will get warm for a number of reasons and that does not mean you have anything to worry about.

This doesn’t really sound like a hack. Copying or sending a link alone won’t compromise an iPhone. The network pause was likely Xfinity flagging that site, not malware, and the phone heating up can happen when apps hang or keep retrying connections.

You did the right thing changing your Apple ID password. A restart or reset if it gives peace of mind is fine, but this feels more like a carrier block plus panic than an infection. If you really want to rule out a hack or spyware then your only real option is to run a scan with something like certo antispy.

Sorry there are no known virus/spyware/hack/malware for a non jailbroken phone.
