It sounds as if you're asking what happened to LaunchPad. It's gone in Tahoe and has been replaced by "Apps" which works differently.

You have a couple of options. One thing you can do is drag your Apps folder to the Dock. You'll then be able to access anything there. You can organize your Apps folder however you want.

You can also use a third-party option such as Launchie. There are a number of others as well.

Or, you can learn how to use Spotlight to launch your apps.

Thank you, but you missed my question. The Apps folder is already in the dock. I had it set up with apps in groups before the Tahoe update; now the groups are gone and the Apps folder won't expand sideways. Apple screwed this function up badly. It's not a show stopper, but why damage something worked well already.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
