I could have paired with the old phone first, to make sure it worked well, then after some time elapsed with no issues unresolved, I could have then replaced the phone. That seems a reasonable approach as well given I had bought a new phone and new watch.

I'm willing to give people another chance if they seem willing to learn. Much as I hated the neologism "Netiquette," I do miss the days when it meant something.
