Apple Music won't play songs on iPhone

This has been an ongoing frustration for at least a year… Apple Music simply won’t play songs from the app. I can change songs via the control panel that I requested via Siri, and I can scroll through my songs and playlists on my app, but the songs simply won’t play. Quitting the app doesn’t work, I have to restart my phone, and sometimes even that doesn’t work. My only solution at that point is to switch to Spotify to play what I want, which has never had this issue. It may have something to do with switching from songs playing through Siri on HomePods to playing songs on my iPhone Apple Music app, but I should be able to do so. It’s like when using older Bluetooth devices where you can’t use one Bluetooth device until someone unpairs first, and it seems like I have to ‘unpair’ from Siri HomePod music before playing songs via iPhone Apple Music HomePod, but I don’t know how to do it when it seems to be an issue, about once a week at the worst times, where I get accused of being on my screen too long when all I’m trying to do is play a song.
