Hmm, I stand corrected.. I don't see those options under my recent calls or voicemail..

I guess that should be suggested as a future feature!

there is an app MapItAreaCD which will give you the location of any area code - also there is an app Area Codes that given a country and location anywhere in the world will give you the country and area code

Well for me, when you view the number that called in call history, it does list location the area code belongs in when the caller is not in your contacts. You have to tap the blue arrow next to number to look at the call details.

This gets less and less useful, as area codes really no longer exist; we all have random 10 digit numbers in the North American Numbering Plan, which covers the US, Canada, Bermuda and the Caribbean. While most numbers are still associated with geography simply out of legacy, this is fading fast. An associate of mine just moved from New Jersey to Maryland, but his phone number is the same as it was in New Jersey. And with VoIP phones you can choose any number you want. When I make calls from China on my AT&T iPhone the caller ID shows me in New Jersey. How useful is that?
