MacBook Air: Epson XP-620 offline, filter failed

PRINTER OFFLINE ERROR MESSAGE

Equipment:

MacBook Air, sys 26.2 +

Epson XP-620 color printer, with newest driver package installed.

Problem:

I get a "printer offline" error message for all but the default version of the printer.

Things I tried:

--Checked cables. All are in place.

--Tried turning printer off and on again.

--Printing with the named driver. It remained offline.

--Printing with the default printer. It stopped partway through,

got the error message that the "filter" had failed.

Any suggestions or possible solutions? Thank you for taking a look.

Try resetting the Mac's Printing System and re-adding the Printer.

If that doesn't help, go to Epson for the latest driver and firmware support.
