Cannot turn off Focus Do Not Disturb on MacBook Air

MacBook Air running on Tahoe 26.2, although I should clarify that this problem was already happening before I upgraded to Tahoe. How do I turn off Focus? The logical way would be System Settings >> Focus >> Do Not Disturb and click on the "On >" button and find a toggle to toggle it off. However, that On is grayed out and, while you can still click on it, there is no toggle waiting on the other side at all. It's making me crazy that I'm not getting any notifications. This also started happening on my iPhone 13 Pro a few months ago, where it started turning on and off randomly. I actually had a schedule set for it, but it was ignoring it. So now it's completely off and I'm ok with it. But at least I was able to turn it off. I'm fairly new to MacAir, as I've just had it since July. Previously I had a desktop iMac. I don't even know if it had a Focus mode because for a desktop or a laptop I simply don't want it at all. Is there any way to please get rid of it permanently????

Thank you, I'll try this. I don't know why, but I've never been a big fan of Control Center, so it's not something I even think about. I'll have to remedy that. In the meantime, I'm trying a sort of workaround. I added a schedule for Focus/DND from 11 PM to 3 AM. By then I'll be in bed and couldn't care less what notifications I do or don't get. We'll see how that works out.
