Experienced the same issue both on MacOS and Windows 11. I was able to verify that this was happening only on my primary Facebook account with reel and FB hosted videos. When I log in to my secondary (business account) the problem went away. Still happening with primary.

This issue occurs

on:

- macOS (Safari, Chrome, Firefox)

- Windows 11 (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)

To note: Facebook ads play normally.

Also, all videos and Reels work perfectly on the Facebook mobile apps both on IOs

and iPadOS.

Troubleshooting Completed on desktop devices:

To rule out local causes, I have tested the following:

- Cleared cache, cookies, and site data

- Disabled all browser extensions

- Tested in Incognito/Private mode

- Tried multiple browsers on both operating systems

- Tested on multiple networks (home Wi‑Fi,

mobile hotspot)

- Reset and flushed DNS and network settings

- Reset IP Stack on the PC

- Verified hardware acceleration settings

- Confirmed that only Facebook‑hosted videos fail (ads and

external embeds work)

The issue persists across all desktop environments on my primary

accounts, which strongly suggests that this is not device‑specific,

browser‑specific,

or network‑specific.

At this point it is fairly conclusive that this is an issue on FB's backend. Sometimes they update their

video playback profiles and codec assignment.

I've sent them a support ticket and am waiting for response.
