iPhone 12 won't charge after updating to iOS 26.2

Hiya folks. I have an iPhone 12. It's been fine. I updated to 26.2 3 days ago, now it won't charge. The charging indicator is lit, but it will not charge. Again, before this update, I had 0 issues with the phone.

Force Restart your phone:

  • Press and quickly release Volume up
  • Press and quickly release Volume down
  • Press and HOLD side button until the Apple logo appears. This may take of up 15 seconds before you see the Apple logo and you will have to ignore anything else on the screen during that time. If you do not see the Apple logo, try again as it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct.

What is your Battery Health? An iPhone 12 is likely to have a Battery Health below 80%, where it is due for a replacement, and you may also see a Service Warning for that battery that would have appeared even before the update. The update did not decrease the Battery Health, but may stress an already weak battery that should have been replaced.

Without any resolution, I would recommend scheduling an appointment with Apple and there will be no diagnostic costs.

When battery health drops below 80%, the battery health screen may change to indicate that the battery needs servicing, and you also may get a one-time notification.

That's what happened with my iPhone 12 mini when battery health dropped from 80% to 79%. I then took the phone to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and had them replace the battery.

Do you see the Battery Service warning? It is only expected to last 500 charge cycles and bad things start happening when it needs replacing including unexpected shut downs and unreliable charging behavior. I suspect there are very few iPhone 12's that have never had their battery replaced. Make sure it is done at Apple or Authorized Apple Service Provider.

Update on This:

Have up updated to iOS 26.2.1 since your Original Post (Jan 19, 2026 11:08 AM)? If so, have you had your Battery replaced since? If both is a "Yes", then it is an update bug, regardless of the 80% Battery Health.
