Is there a safer and better way to use Apple Maps in CarPlay?

CarPlay using iOS 26 and CarPlay has become burdensome and there's got to be an easier, less confusing way to use it. Ask Siri to give me directions to a place...either already in saved places or a random location. CarPlay/Maps gives me a myriad of selections each with GO in green. I have to take my eyes off the road to then select which of the routes I want. The GO in green turns to gray (an odd color for a "selected" function but...) when selected then the popup shows the selected gray route AGAIN but this time a blue select to activate. So, the amount of time I must use to select and activate a route takes precious EYE time away from the road. There are other times that I will ask Siri to take me to a location and it will automatically select the top route and activate it without further action on my part. CarPlay and voice selection/activation worked great before iOS 26 but now, the current version is a safety hazard. I've started experimenting with Google Maps and, while Apple has some better features, Google is much easier to use. WAZE, to me, is a hazard to use all the time as it gives me too much distracting information. As an airline pilot instructor, I like simple yet effective ways to control my jet that leaves me the time to analyze what's going on right now and plan ahead. If Apple Maps was that way, I'd be a happy camper! Suggestions anyone?
