Passport in apple wallet for citizenship verification

I understand that your passport in your wallet is not an official proof of citizenship. Now that there is all this talk about carrying your passport with you to prove citizenship, is there going to be any chance that your passport stored on your iphone can be used for prove of citizenship instead of just TSA use? Is apple working on that?

This is a user to user for, we are not privy to Apple;'s internal development operations. Apple has said nothing about that at this time, so impossible to know what if anything they are or may be working on.

But also, what do you expect Apple to do? It's up to the US government, specifically ICE and DHS to actually want to accept the digital ID stored in your iPhone as proof of citizenship.

The ID is there. If Homeland needs more info or details they have to ask tell Apple that and then Apple can maybe add the option to have that information available. But again, this is a government requirement, so they are the ones that have to detail what they would need for the digital ID to be acceptable.

Apple on its own cannot in any way make a digital ID acceptable by the US government.

Right to all those responses. I understand we don’t know what apple may be working on and it is not directly up to them to make a decision but if there is a big need for this, the conversation needs to be started so big tech can see there is a need. I just can’t see everyone carrying around their birth certificate or physical passport if we have tools that can address the need.

Tech can add any feature they want, but it is useless without a Government willing to accept it. It is the voters that have the ability to contact their Representative for legislation and choose who they want to represent them.

The solution you ask for is not one that Tech can solve. For example, Apple added the ability to add your Driver's License to the Wallet long ago, and it still is not an option for many because their local government will not pass a law to recognize it.

Even if you are walking around with your Birth Certificate and Passport, what difference do you think that is going to make?

You can suggest the option to Apple and if enough people do, they may initiate contact with the State Department, DHS and ICE to further this along.

It says Apple Pay, but it's in general for the Feedback for the Wallet App, so includes IDs and other non-Apple-Pay related features.
