macOS Tahoe 26.2: No longer drag and drop files on to folder icon in list view

Since updating to macOS Tahoe 26.x (now on 26.2), I’ve noticed a change in drag-and-drop behavior in Finder (List view). Previously, I could drag items onto a folder icon and they would reliably move into that folder. Now, it seems I have to drag directly onto the folder name/text for it to work — dropping onto the folder icon often does nothing or drops the item in the parent directory.

This feels like a regression or bug rather than an intentional change, as the behavior is inconsistent with previous macOS versions and long-standing Finder interactions. It’s a small thing, but it noticeably disrupts established workflows and can be frustrating, especially when managing many files.

Sharing this in case others are experiencing the same issue, and hoping Apple is aware and can address it in a future update.

I would do what works.

That has been some changes here yes

I use the List View exclusively and really have not considered it a fault or downside; just different.

I am sure Apple will take your feedback into consideration for the next iteration if enough people submit similar.
