FaceTime not working correctly on macOS Monterey

The facetime app is not working correctly on MacOS Monterey 12.7.6

It only allows me to create "links" for Facetime as if I'm trying to facetime with someone that doesn't have an Apple device. However, I've tested this with multiple contacts who all have Apple devices. The facetime option is "greyed out" and I don't even get facetime calls on my Macbook pro 2016 anymore when someone tries to facetime me. This happened ever since the iOS 26 update....

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated....

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.7

I guess you would have checked that your wi-fi connection is not-a-problem, and you have internet access.:

Here's Apple Support's online article for MacOS Monterey: Wondering if any of the tips in there can help:

Make calls in FaceTime on Mac - Apple Support

and / or

If you may have any restrictions on using FaceTime set: See: Turn off Screen Time on your Mac - Apple Support

If you haven't already:

(1) Quit the FaceTime app.

(2) Restart your Mac ie: Apple menu > Restart. (Deletes temporary files, re=establishes connections, may update any recent setting changes, and more ; often restores order if something is not working as expected) Wait for Mac to restart and log back-in.

(3) Reopen FaceTime, and see whether you can now make and receive calls.

If the problem-situation continues:

If you have any unnecessary third-party (non-Apple) apps like virus-checkers, ad-blockers, cleaners, and the like (even VPN ... unless provided by an employer) installed on your Mac, try turning them off. (Better yet, uninstall them using uninstallers from their developers to clear up any associated files as well as the apps.) Such apps often cause interference.

Any third-party apps you find necessary, need to be kept up-to-date so they don't cause compatibility issues.

Still need help?

Is your Mac short on memory / storage space ... eg: A Mac generally needs at least 50 Gb free in order to do alll you ask it to do, and to run smoothly. Check Apple menu > System Preferences (/Settings) > General > Storage:

If space is short: Remember it is wise to first back up your Mac, before making space available

Try FaceTiming someone directly from their details in their contact card ? Ask Siri to FaceTime someone ?

Wondering if there are any restrictions set on who you may call on Facetime.

Eg: There can be parental restrictions, or ScreenTime restrictions set.

If you are in a Family Sharing group... check with the Organiser

or

See: Set up content and privacy restrictions in Screen Time on Mac - Apple ...

You may want to check whether your MacOS Monterey is the newest Monterey version:

Eg: Apple menu > System Setting (or preferences) > General > Software Updates.

I'm having the same issue on my 2015 MacBook Air. Spent over an hour with a Sr. Technician at Apple yesterday. We went through all the trouble shooting... Restart the computer, sign in/out of apple, verify that the software is current, and even re-installed the operating system. Nothing worked.

I had to call back in to Apple and spoke with another tech. Since my device is so old, I can't take it to an Apple store. Apple had to connect me to a third party. I went to Geek Squad and they they couldn't help. Their assumption is that FaceTime is no longer compatible with the device. And it's super weird. I didn't have these problems before Monterey. I wish there was some sort of notification. I would have avoided the upgrade for as long as possible.

Any update on this? I've tried everything. Even migrated from 2015 iMac i5 to 2015 Mac Mini i7 and still showing same symptoms. Both are on latest version of Monterey OS. Some iPhone contacts are still greyed out while others aren't for facetime. Everything was working great before I upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey. Every Apple devices I own are on same network and same Apple ID.
