How do I remove the darkness in the background when i switch apps? i want it to be like before the update and i don’t want everything to be so dark

Change your wallpaper to something lighter. The background when you switch apps is just a blurred version of the background on the home screens
Understood, but doesn’t really change my answer. There is no setting for that background, it is a function of the home screen background (not the lock screen), and it would be highly unlikely to have any functional effect on switching apps. Only other thing I can offer is trying a forced restart: Force restart iPad - Apple Support
If you believe there is something more significant going on, try posting a screenshot and someone may recognize the issue. You might include your home screen background as well.

My wallpaper is light. There's a visible black darkening when i'm on the thing with all previously opened apps. And it's too dark
Not sure what to tell you. Could be a function of iPadOS17 (if that is what you are still on). You could try restarting the device, I suppose. All said and done, not sure why it matters.
This is a brand new ipad.
