iPhone photos not visible on computer when connected

My photos are on my phone, I can send them to people, I can view, whatever I want. When connecting phone to computer, I am prompted to trust the computer, which I agree to, but when I open the folders, and get to my image folders, the folders stop at October of 2023 then the next is January 2026, and when opening January 2026, I only have icons that show what looks like a hard drive and an unlocked padlock. No images at all. But all images from October 2023 through January 2026 are present o the phone! I need to retrieve these.

Can you go into edit mode with these delinquent pictures?

What Mac OS are you running?

I need to retrieve these.

Four things to try:

#1. Try using the app Image Capture from your Applications folder. That sometimes seems less finicky.

#2. You should also try doing a forced re-start on the phone, like this:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

This is different from a simple Power Off. I had to continue holding the button down past the "slide to power off" message, maybe 10 seconds, and then I released the button only after  the Apple Logo appeared indicating a re-start.

#3. And you should restart the computer (of course.)

#4. And also try a re-start in Safe Mode. This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes, and it often helps. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

That would have been good information to have. Are you using Windows, Linux, or what? I'm happy you haven't had an issue before.

Skip to "Import to your Windows PC."
