Mojave Boot Camp removal: physical disconnect vs. eject?

Apple's instructions for removing boot camp from Mojave are clear except for one thing...

It says to disconnect all external hard drives. But it does not specify f the drives have to be physically disconnected or if I can just eject the drives inside the Finder.

Which should I do?
