When using the camera on my phone, I *always* want to use 16:9 aspect ratio. This means EVERY time I go to take a pic, I have to make that change -- and more than once this has caused me to miss the shot. I could swear there was a way to set the default aspect ratio In previous versions of IOS, but in IOS 26, I no longer see a way to do this. Is there a way to make 16:9 the default aspect ratio?

Have you tried turning on Settings>Camera>Preserve Settings>Creative Controls?
It says "Preserve the last aspect ratio or light setting rather than automatically reset."
That's what I use, but I typically preserve 4:5, which is the native format for the sensor. Choosing 16:9 just cuts off the top and bottom for the photographed image and, for me, I'd rather make that decision after I see those missing parts.

I also use 16.9 I wish it had full screen like my samsung s 24 ultra does but for iPhone 17 pro max I prefer 19.6 aspect ratio thats the best we can get maybe iOS 26 will bring the full screen option but in camera setting it stays at 16.9 in preserved settings thats cool I dont like the top and bottom black grids
