If you’re in the US you can have your iPhone insured by a separate rider to your home owners or renters insurance. It’s commonly known as a Whole Risk Rider, but to your agent it’s known as an Inland Marine policy or rider. Typical premiums are several dollars per $100 of value. A $1000 phone would typically cost $20 to $30 annually to insure against theft, loss, breakage or any damage that would occur.

iPhone Loss and Theft coverage is not available in many countries and regions, meaning customers in those areas cannot purchase or benefit from this protection plan.
Theft and loss coverage is included with AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for iPhone and provides up to two incidents of theft or loss coverage every 12 months

That's up to you. How long have you owned your phone? Who did you buy it from? When you buy a brand new iPhone from Apple directly or an Apple Authorized Seller, you have 60 days to purchase an AppleCare+ Plan. If you purchased more than 60 days ago, you are no longer eligible for an AppleCare+ Plan. But most carriers offer their own insurance options, which you might want to look into.
It is really up to you. What do you mean by "security"? Also note that there is a difference between insurance and an extended warranty. We have too little information from you to answer your question as it stands unless we post an extremely long reply covering all possibilities.
For what it is worth, we never buy AppleCare and our devices are less than our household insurance deductible, so I guess we are self-insuring. We are careful with our devices and with what we have saved by not buying extra coverage for the past couple of iPhones we recently purchased our new iPhone.
you can also have a talk with the insurance company you have your other insurances with, many have consumer electronic packages you can add.
