AirDrop and Universal Control are unreliable

Is AirDrop and Universal Control really unreliable? The behavior seems so inconsistent. Some times it works. other times there's nothing. Universal Control doesn't work, can't push the mouse through from one device to the other, from the Mac to pad, and then I can't AirDrop either. The OS doesn't see anything, no pad, no phone. Can't make sense of this. Bluetooth is working on all devices. ll are on the same WiFi network.

Both Universal Control and AirDrop are generally reliable for me, among two Macs (16” M4 Pro on Tahoe, 16” M1 Pro still on Sequoia but will upgrade soon) and an iPad Pro (13” M5) on iPad OS 26, and additionally with AirDrop to/from an iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 26.

Once I had AirDrop fail (stuck on sending), a reboot of the destination Mac fixed that. Once I had a Universal Control push-through from the Sequoia Mac to the iPad not work, a reboot of the iPad fixed that.
