iPhone messaging apps lag on Wi-Fi, good on cellular data

I’ve come to the conclusion that when I use data on my iPhone, messaging apps are far more responsive (getting and sending messages.) When I use wifi the same apps are mostly lagging. I’ve noticed this issue for the longest time, years.

At this time I’m using a fiber optics wifi connection but even years ago when I didn’t, I had the same problem. I understand it has something to do with the settings on my iPhone rather than the actual wifi connection (I’ve no issues on any other devices or apps.) Also through the years I had different iPhone models but this issue with the same apps keep on going. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
