Re: Safari: View PDFs instead of downloading
Safari automatically downloads the file. How do I instead just view the file within Safari on a separate tab?
If a link allows you to view a PDF (see note below) instead of downloading it:
See: See a PDF in Safari on Mac - Apple Support
Eg: says:
- "Go to the Safari app
on your Mac. - Go to a web page.
- Click the link to a PDF.
- Move the pointer to the bottom centre of the browser window to see controls.
- To stop viewing the PDF, click
in the toolbar."
Note: It is often the website's webMaster or design-team who programs what a link will do, directed by management. Generally there are descriptions of what each file contains on the website, yet that info. may not be available on their "downloads" page where all the links are.

Re: "I do not want the extra steps of finding it in my Downloads folder and opening it"
Umm ... no web-page opened for me from the link provided. Maybe I'm in the wrong country or not logged in.
In Safari > Settings > General you can tick : "Open safe files after downloading"
If you want to change where Safari downloads a file (eg: to the desktop instead, for easy access):
Try Safari > Settings > General > “File download location” pop-up menu and choose a location.
