You are not the first to voice displeasure with the new UI. It's quite a change.

However, there is no way to revert the change without downgrading the OS.

And downgrading the OS is a huge undertaking that includes backing up your files to an external drive, creating a bootable installer (optional but advised), erasing the Mac, reinstalling macOS, setting up a new user account and finally recovering your files back to the startup disk. And there is the potential that any firmware update that may have taken place might require the use of another Mac to restore or revive your computer firmware using Apple Configurator.

Downgrading to an earlier macOS version is not a task to be taken lightly. It's easier and wiser to work through any problems you are experiencing than trying to downgrade macOS.

First, ensure that you have upgraded to macOS 26.2. Some of the Liquid Glass effects were toned down a bit from the appearance of 26.0 or 26.1.

You have several options to modify the new macOS 26.2 appearance. There are many, many articles online describing the options but the settings to play with are in System Settings > Appearance. The Liquid Glass section allows either "Clear" or "Tinted", and and Icon & Widget section allows four settings. In addition, you could experiment with System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce Transparency.

Hopefully you will find a combination of settings that you like. It is almost never a good idea to downgrade to an earlier OS on any platform. Security improvements are too important to abandon over minor appearance differences.
