iPhone battery drains while idle, screen time incorrect

iphone drains battery while not in use ? I slept 11:30pm, 80% and woke up and it’s 45%. 96% bh, 245 cycles, 10 months old, and it started draining battery while not in use. Home and lock screen on 81% and screen time already on 14hrs at the evening even if my screen time only adds up to 3 hrs.. why ?

Depending on your iPhone model if you have an iPhone 15 or later You can set a battery limit to 95% and let your iPhone charge all night without going all the way to 100% keeping the battery healthy.

Usually, iPhone will be backing up and syncing to iCloud at night and updates apps and other stuff like what Jeff Donald said, so that’s why the battery drops a bit. it’s best if you leave it charging all night, but if you want to keep the battery healthy you can set a battery charge limit.

The charge limit is a placebo. Does nothing to preserve battery life.

Yes, especially after an update or upgrade of the iOS. Much of the heavy duty syncing and iCloud activity is scheduled during the night to avoid slowing the iPhone down during your normal daytime routine. It’s assumed your iPhone is turned on, connected to both WiFi and your wall charger.

Please post screenshots of the battery charts and apps using your battery capacity.

Just saw someone else mention this too from Lawrence Finch. Apple introduced the charge limit on iPhone 15 models specifically to reduce battery aging. Lithium‑ion batteries wear out faster when they stay at 100% for long periods, especially overnight. Limiting the charge to 80–95% reduces that stress. Apple explains this in their battery support documentation, so it’s not a placebo. It’s a long term preservation feature rather than an instant fix.

Says who? Apple? they would if it sells their hardware.

People worry about capacity (aka "health") getting near 80%, yet happily impose that capacity from new by 80% charge limits. By the time they do degrade to 80% you are starting the day on 64%.
