What to do: M1 Macbook Pro Sequoia Camera Issue

M1 Macbook Pro Sequoia Camera Issue

I just discovered that my macbook camera won't work even though there are light indicators. When I would open Photobooth and Facetime to check there would be a lag.

Please help, thanks

Using a Camera:

If you must use a camera, and no external one is available to you, then see if it is a hardware or software error.

A. See if a Camera is Even Seen:

Do you get a black screen on the camera app? If so, uncover it. If you get a message, such as "No video capture devices were found.", then wither it has been disable through a third-party app; you don't have permission to access it as a user; or its drivers have gone missing.

So, perform the followng..

  1. Hold Down: Option key
  2. Click: Apple menu
  3. Select: System Information
  4. Click: Camera

What is seen on the screen?

B. Use a New User:

Troy troubleshooting purposes, create a new Administrator user, and then see if it works. If so, then it is an issue with your current user (likely a misconfiguration). If not, then it is an issue you with entire macOS, in which case, you need to reinstalling the macOS(as mentioned above). Trash this user you've just created after doing so.

C. Reinstalling the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple Support. Use the third bulleted method: [command + r]. IMPORTANT: To prevent data loss, be sure to back up your Mac with Time Machine, prior to the reinstall.
