iOS 15.8.6 cannot be installed on the iPhone SE (2016)

Very helpful call with Apple. Turns out the problem was with VPN. Turned that off and all is well

Troubleshooting "Cannot be Verified":

A. Use a Computer and Ethernet:

Start with attempting an update through use of a computer. If you cannot use Wi-Fi, then use Ethernet.  See my User Tip: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. On the computer, you would connect it through Ethernet, going directly into your router. For a Mac (or PC) that does not have Ethernet, this would be the adapter to use: Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple. If you get the same error, the model is likely just not compatible.

B. Trusted Root Certificates:

Any message of profiles or Root Certificates?

C. About "Not on Internet":

You might not be on the Internet. Just because you are connected to a network, does not mean you have an Internet connection. You may be connected to an internal LAN, and not to the Internet.

Per Jeff Donald's reply, there are a few reported issues. You'll just have to wait it out. As of this reply, however, there are no reports of any system issues(current or recent) on Apple's end: Apple - Support - System Status

Restart your router and reset your network settings.

If you can't connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Apple this morning unsigned the updates they had currently made available. This makes currently available versions fail verification. Please wait for Apple to release a new, updated version of iOS 15.8.x.

When Apple has fixed the current issue, you will be able to update.

Try again in a few days.

I.O.S. 15.8.6 did install n my Iphone 7. Now neither my Iphone nor my Ipad will connact to wifi. Sometimes they connect for a few seconds then disconnect. It's not a wifi problem since the TV connects wirelessly to wifi.

Issues with the update. When they are fixed, you will be able to run the update.

Thanks. Same issue on my iPod touch. (But of course I am connected to the net, having just downloaded the update, despite the misleading error.)

All Ok now. My iPod got the update on Thursday morning.
