iPhone repeatedly alerts for texts after iOS 26 update

My iphone 17 Max Pro alerts for every single text that comes in including texts I’ve already read on my ipad. During a conversation it can alert up to 30 times! This only started since the iOS 26 update. How do i make it stop?

Why are text alerts inconsistent on my iPhone 16 Pro Max? I have iPhone 16 Pro Max with 18.2.1, and I only get text alert sounds about 10% of the time.
