Recover six photos after Mac SSD iCloud erase , format, and reinstall operating system?

I gave away a 16" M1 MacBookPro 2021 with a slight screen aberration, but no crack. Before donating, I used the remote erase featured on iCloud, then launched disk utility which showed only 11.5 GB used, then used disk utility to formatthe internal drive APFS / GUID, and reinstalled the OS from the recovery partition.

Gave the computer away yesterday, and today saw this excellent article by Apple: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support

Yikes--- Before erasing, I didn't sign out of iCloud, didn't rename bluetooth, didn't deauthorize the computer, etc. I didn't check the trim setting but never changed the setting ever.

PROBLEM: After giving up the laptop I recall there were six unique photographs on the drive that I'd like and were not backed up. I can get the computer back, but in reading articles it seems impossible to retrieve those photos. Data recovery programs, like Drill Disk, give some hope, but perhaps that is to promote sales.

  1. Is it possible to retrieve six those photos? Yes, I should have backed them up but didn't.
  2. Is the iCloud erase more destructive or permanent then just reformatting with disk utility?
  3. Any software recommendations to get back those photos (jpeg)?
