iPad M4 display screen error: 'This part is unable to be configured

Good Morning,

I've been doing some modification work on a number of iPad 13" M4 (A2925) units. Unfortunately, one unit has a damaged logic board, and the other has a damaged screen.

I can donate the working screen to the working back panel to create a functioning iPad, however I end up with an issue when trying to run the 'Restart and Finish Repair' option in the Parts and Service area of the settings to authenticate the screen.

When running through the Restart and Finish Repair option, I get the following message about the display:

"This part is unable to be configured because it is property of Apple or one of its partners"

The screen has been taken from a brand new unit that I set up personally, which I believe is the cause of the issue.

I have, in the past, removed and donated working screens to other back panels and never received this error message (just a notification that the screen is Used), but these screens had come from units that had not been set up.

Is there a way to configure this screen at all so that this error message will go away, and the screen will show up as a Used replacement in the Parts and Service History settings area?

Kind regards,

Tom

If the iPad disabled or Activation Locked, unless you can independently obtain assistance from the previous owner, the iPad is (and will remain) useless to you. If you are able to contact the original owner, they will require this information:

Here are the Apple support pages that outline the Activation Lock - and the only mechanisms by which it can be satisfied:

Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Turn off Activation Lock – Apple Support

As you will discover, unless you are the owner of the AppleID that was last used to successfully activate the device, you’ll not be able to defeat or bypass the Activation Lock. With documentary evidence that you are the original owner (such as the original sales receipt showing the serial number), Apple may be prepared to assist - otherwise they and nobody here will be able to help you.
