Uninstall Final Cut after getting Studio package?

I purchased Final Cut a couple of years ago. I have also updated keynote which is part of the studio package.

my question is do I need to uninstall Final Cut which I purchased and use the studio version? I don’t really want an additional copy of the app I already have. It’s a bit confusing!

They are two different versions of the apps. You can have both on your Mac at the same time. To delete one, move it to the trash, simple as that. You can always go back into the App Store and redownload what you've already purchased. Very easy.

Except if, in the meantime, macOS and Final Cut Pro gets updated and the user cannot update the OS accordingly... since Apple only provides the last version, the user may end as many running older OS are today, unable to download a compatible version.

It is always best to keep a copy as a backup, always.

Hi (bonjour),

Well I do presume that we have to get an internet connection to use studio apps. So if you delete your purchased version, you could loose the possibility to edit without internet. And you’ll add to pay your subscription forever.

Yes, you could be able to reinstall the purchased FCP… as long as AppStore stock it.

Imagine you keep your Mac for many years like I do with my 2011 MacBook Pro, my 2013, 2017 and 2020 iMacs. You could need a previous FCP versions. As you probably know right now, all older versions of FCP are missing from Apple Store. So it’s a deadlock.

So, yes you can delete your buyer copy, but at least keep it in a backup.
