Non Apple ID Email Accounts

I have an apple email account, @icloud.com, separate from my apple id and apple email @me.com. I purchased a new iPhone and trying to add this account to Apple Mail, it is asking for a password which I can't remember.

I have tried to reset this password 4 times, with the same process and the same steps being give by apple chate and live support. Has anyone resolved this issue before and how?


  • forgot password
  • entered my phone #
  • received a code from Apple
  • Entered that code
  • Apple response- Thank you, we are sorry we do not have enough data at this time, we will need 24 hours.
  • 24 hours later - received email that said, we do not have enough data please wait 4 days and we will send you and email... and then nothing.
  • checked the reset my password page and my account is clear to "reset my password" directions are the same as the previous 4 times..

@me.com and @icloud.com, as well other previous Apple email accounts are all the same account as far as Apple is concerned. That is name@me.com and name@icloud.com are the same account.


If you used a different name for each account then the only option available to you is this link...


If you forgot your Apple Account password - Apple Support


If you still can’t reset your password then open a ticket with Apple Support. Start by clicking on the Support link at the the top right of this page, next to the search 🔍 icon.

I don't believe you are completely correct. In believing the same thing I did reset my Apple ID Password, and I could not log into the @icloud.com email account.


I have an open ticket with Apple but they keep telling me to do the same thing, so I keep getting stuck in the multi day waiting period.


The only new thing in the last communications with Apple, is that when the waiting period is over, I only have a limited amount of time to actually reset the password, as the password reset will time out.

i understand this is not a forum of Apple techs. I. was hoping others have had this problem and had some ideas / solutions that have bot been recommended by Apple Support.


I thought i was being clear with describing the issue but maybe not. Even you are telling me my password ‘should be’ the same as my apple id, but after trying to add the email account to my new iPhone, its obviously not.


I am really unclear how to get this fixed!
