Brother HL-L2460dw paused on MacBook Air

I have successfully connected my new Brother HL-L2460dw laser monochrome printer to my MacBook Air M2 computer running Sequoia 15.7.3. It shows up in the list of available printers when I try to print.

However, the Print Center insists that this printer is paused, and I can't see any way to get it unpaused. So I can see it process my job (the blue line fills up from left to right), but then nothing happens.

Various web sites say this printer works with Mac. Sure doesn't look like it to me!
