Can I remove pre-installed Apple apps on macOS?

Remove useless apps

After last update to macOS 26.2 I found a list of useless apps, made by apple. And I really want to get rid of them, but I can't just move them to trashcan or even move them to separate "Apple trash" folder.

Are they really so necessary? Is macOS really can't work without "Chess", "TV", "Stocks" or "Podcasts"?

Apps on the read-only cryptographically signed boot volume cannot be removed.

The read-only volume adds to the security of macOS by preventing malware from modifying the operating system.

Including the base set of apps reduces support costs, and unhappy customers that decided to move or delete the wrong thing, turning their Mac into an expensive doorstop (in the past these forums have seen a lot of that; not any more).

If you feel there is an app that should be store in the read/write “Macintosh HD -Data” volume, please send feedback to

No.

Well, the message really should say, "these are all what we define to be the core macOS." Are most of them necessary for the os to function, no.

Apple used to have a list of apps included with the OS, but I can't find it for Tahoe. It was all of the ones you cannot remove because they are on the sealed snapshot volume, i.e., part of the OS.

Chess has been part of the macOS install since 2001. None of the apps takes up much space. If you get into the habit of launching apps using Spotlight, you never have to look in the Applications folder.

Just to add

The same Applications you have listed in above

They would have existed in macOS 15, macOS 14 , macOS 13 etc

Do this has nothing to do with the Installation of macOS 26.2 Tahoe
