Where were they stored? Were they synced to either iCloud or OneDrive?

Not in the cloud either

Were the synched with iCloud or OneDrive and not found there, or were they never synched to any cloud service?

Were they stored inside your home folder (I.e., Documents) or somewhere else on the Mac.

Where do you see, "not accessible or deleted"?

I don’t exactly understand from what I suspect u stored things locally and the update deleted those files there is obviously a misconception here. As that would never happen . But anyway if your files were a accidentally deleted u should try using disk drill to bring ‘‘em back this app works magic
