White speck with bump on MacBook Air M4 screen

Small speck/white dot with bump on the macbook air screen

so i was cleaning my 5 month old macbook air m4 using a microfiber cloth with part damp with cold water but this tiny white speck just doesn’t go away. could this be a permanent damage and should i have this serviced? and will it be covered by the limited 1 year warranty? any tips how can i get it off if it’s really just a dust? this is how it looks like when i have black and a white background

That screen needs a lot more cleaning & buffing since I cannot see anything else but smeared grime.

After using a damp cloth, you need to use a dry clean cloth to wipe up the remaining moisture & buff it out. You will need to fold the cloth a few times to find a clean dry area of the cloth to finish the cleaning/buffing process. For the grime shown in the picture, you may need to do this several times before the glass is clean.

You may actually need to use a bit of an LCD screen cleaner to get that grime off if my suggestion above doesn't work to remove that grime. Do not use any harsher chemicals or you will damage the coating on the glass.

If after cleaning the screen you still see the white spot, then see if you can use your fingernail to gently scrape over the white spot (since you felt it) so it may break up the debris so your cloth can wipe it away.

FYI, when applying water or an LCD cleaner.....make sure you apply it to the cloth so the cloth is only very lightly damp or you can cause liquid damage to the display (liquid can seep behind the edge of the glass to get between the glass & LCD panel causing permanent visual damage). I've never encountered any issues using an LCD screen cleaner on the recent Macs prior to the models with the Nano Textured screens....I have yet to encounter one of the Nano Textured screens so I would avoid LCD Cleaner with a Nano Textured display.

None of us on this support site can make a conclusive determination, and Apple grants themselves wide latitude regarding what they consider to be cosmetic imperfections. The only thing you can do is ask them to inspect it. Start with the Support link below.

Initial contact with Apple may result in them having you read About LCD display pixel anomalies for Apple products released in 2010 and later - Apple Support, so you might as well do that first so that you can tell them you did. I understand it's not strictly a pixel anomaly, but that document is as close as it gets.

You've stated that you thought it was a bump. If it can not be removed by cleaning as suggested by HWTech, it could instead actually be a tiny chip that may feel like a bump because it's so small. You may feel something but it may hard to differentiate between it being a bump or a chip.

If it's indeed a chip, no amount of cleaning will remove it. If it's a bump, it may be possible to remove it by cleaning as suggested.
