How to back up files to another drive instead of iCloud

I want to be able to backup my files on another drive. I don't want to back them up with iCloud. How can I do this without losing everything to icloud

iCloud Backup- how to add an External Hard Drive? I have an iCloud account and would like to back up and keep an entire external hard drive on iCloud up to date. I researched it and signed in to online iCloud> Drive>, and it says it will not back up folders, just files. Is there a drag-and-drop feature? Also, where can I get a list of computers that have access to the folders and files in the iCloud account?

iCloud does not back up your Mac. You can use Time Machine (or similar) for that.

Use Time Machine, or the Disk Utility's Image function, or a non-Apple product, or drag-copy them to that drive.
