macOS 26.2 Finder: Cannot adjust column width

I have been a Mac user since the IBM chip days. I installed MacOS 26.2 on my new Mac mini. I have most often used Finder in Columns view. I wish to adjust the column width in that view so I can see longer file names in the column. I CANNOT ADJUST THE COLUMN WIDTHS! When I have "enough" columns, a slider bar appears at the bottom of the window, and it EXACTLY covers ALL the width adjustment handles in the window! I wish I could download a screenshot of this problem, but I don't see how to do that. This is a HORRIBLE MISTAKE by the OS guys. Please fix it!

In System Settings->Appearance, change the setting for Scroll Bars from “Always” to “Automatically based on mouse or trackpad”, or “When scrolling”. With either of those selected, you can resize the columns by clicking and dragging anywhere in the dividing line, not just at the bottom.

There have been reports that this problem may have been fixed in the next version but it is no longer a problem if you make the change I suggest above (and frankly I would keep that option even if the issue gets fixed, as windows look better, it is easier to adjust and waste no space

What your image shows is what you should see when Scroll Bars are set to "Always".

When set to "Automatically" the separators are thin and can be clicked anywhere, not just at the bottom:

Try changing it to "Always", then change again to "Automatically based on mouse or trackpad".

If the change does not stick, try force-relaunching Finder (command-option-escape, then select Finder in the list and click Relaunch).

Sorry, they do not in my environment. I cannot adjust the column widths when the slider bar shows up at the bottom. The handles do not move. I have a screenshot that shows this. I have contacted Apple; I sure hope they can fix it. I must have chosen the view that does not have the handles anywhere on the column. My Settings are pointing to "Automatically ..." and not "Always".
