Stolen AirPods Pro (2nd gen): Play sound or disable?

I recently lost my AirPods Pros (Gen 2). I looked at its location recently, and I saw it on the move, meaning someone stole my Airpods. Up until a week ago, I was able to track where they last were, but the thief disabled its location. So, I had 2 questions:

1. Although its location has been disabled, on FindMy, I see an option to Play Sound from each individual AirPod with the ear-piercing sound - does this feature work even though the location has been disabled?
2. If the thief had at least paid me for my AirPods pros, I wouldn't have cared that they are using it. Since they were stolen from me, I wanted to see if there is a way to disable the AirPods? I definitely do not want them being used (I can see that they are out of my case right now!).
