Why is there no option to close all apps on iOS?

Why won’t Apple provide users an “option” to Clear All Apps? I understand and have read its reasoning. It’s annoying having them all open. I don’t need to save a page open for future reference and/or accessibility. And I don’t care about using up battery or ram. I switched over to IOS from Android for the Apple experience and certain features I didn’t know they restricted this option. A biggie for me. I just want the option to clear one or all apps. Especially because when I leave a site it’s because I’m finished utilizing it’s purpose. Thank you

iPhone 17 Pro Max, iOS 26

It makes very little sense to force close any app. The only reason why that would be necessary on iOS is if an app is frozen. An app that is suspended in the background is not running at all. I understand an open app works differently on Android, but that is not the case on iOS.

In fact the recommendation by Apple is that you should not do that, so it would make sense that there is not a close all option.

  • You should close an app only if it’s unresponsive.

It makes all the sense in the world. If I revisit a site (e.g Facebook group) after leaving it. I don’t want to go back to that group in order for me to get to my profile page or news feed. It’s just another step I have to go through. If I click on FB icon I want to be directed to home page. So it does make sense to have the option.

It takes more steps to force close the app even on Android. The way to return to the Home page on Facebook is a single tap before closing the app. Then the next time you return to Facebook, you will be on the home page.

If you don't like the way the Facebook app behaves, complain to Facebook.

That is correct. When an app returns from a suspended state, the app is free to direct to any page they wish. There is no requirement that it must return to the last visited page. The app receives a applicationWillEnterForeground message to proceed however they want. Doing nothing will return to the last state.
