iPhone doesn't need, nor benefit from ANY VPN. In particular, they cause connectivity issues on iPhone and they most certainly DON'T provide the security you've been led to believe they do, unless you'd be happy knowing your every search is being sold to someone.

None. Despite the fancy advertising claims and hype, a VPN actually provides less security.....not more.
The only valid reason to install a VPN on your iPhone would be that your company or school requires it to connect to their network.
The best way to protect your information is to begin learning about basic cybersecurity best practices. Here are some great resources to start with:

https://consumer.ftc.gov/identity-theft-and-online-security/online-privacy-and-security
The second most important thing is to assume that information about nearly everyone is already on the dark web and is for sale. One of the most important things that you can do to mitigate this fact is to place a freeze on your credit reports: https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze
Don't believe the marketing tactics used by VPN providers claiming that it will give you security, because the opposite is actually the case. Unfortunately it is difficult to find reliable information on the internet, since many of the stories you read about the security provided by a VPN are Sponsored articles paid by the VPN providers themselves.
There's nothing special about the dark web. You just can't get to those servers with a typical web browser. You need a separate one, such as the Tor browser.
Other than that, that's where most of the information stolen from all of these server breaches you read and hear about on the news go. Hardly anything you can control.
