The current recommended best practice is to replace a battery when its battery health drops below 80%.
A message will appear on your iPhone's screen to let you know that the battery has degraded significantly and it is time to replace the battery. That message usually appears at about 78-79% Maximum Capacity.
Good practice for battery's health on all your IOS device:
Setting>Display & Brightness> Brightness bar should be half way or less
Same section lower Auto-Lock>The less the better 30 seconds to 2 minutes are the best choice(Never put it to Never)
Setting>General>Background app refresh>Turn it off completely as app update when you open them you don't need them to update in the background each seconds of the day.
Those settings will help your battery's health in the long run!
Good news. You probably have another 9-10 months remaining on your current battery.
New battery will be about $100 (U.S.) at the Apple Store / Genius Bar or an authorized Apple service shop. If you don't have a conveniently located Apple Store, an authorized shop can handle the battery replacement.
