Purchased TV show episodes won't autoplay

I'm unable to autoplay purchased TV Show episodes from my library.

I've recently purchased a show I want to watch which has 30 minute episodes. But the autoplay will not automatically play the next episode. I have auto play turned on in my settings, but it still takes me back to the episode select at the end of each episode.

I read somewhere that if you went through the AppleTV player instead of the library it would work, but I had the same issue.

How can I get my purchased TV shows to playback automatically without having to manually create a playlist for each show?

I'm using an AppleTV app on my smart TV - but I get the same issue on my AppleTV device.

Apple support's online article: Control autoplay for videos and sound in the Apple TV app - Apple Support.

Eg: says:

  1. Go to the Apple TV app on your smart TV, streaming device, gaming console, cable, or satellite service.
  2. Open the sidebar, then select Settings.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • Play the next episode automatically: Turn Play Next Episode on or off.
    • Play recommended content automatically after watching a series, movie, or sporting event: Turn Play a Recommendation on or off.
    • Turn the sound on or off for videos that autoplay: Turn Autoplay Video Sound on or off."
