iCloud did it's own thing.
Somehow, too much info went to iCloud. how do I remove from iCloud all except Mail & Passwords without removing anything from my computer and set it not to do that anymore? Thank you!
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.2

iCloud settings are at
System Settings>[name]>iCloud
like this:
You can click on each section and turn it on or off.
In iCloud Drive, if you have Desktop & Documents turned on, then you should see this:
Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support
Near the bottom it discusses turning off D&D.
I'd turn off Desktop & Documents first, then move stuff from the iCloud Drive D&D folders to the User folders. Then turn off Drive.
Let us know how it goes…

Thank you for your help. I had so many problems between my computer, iphone and icloud I called Apple twice. Today will be my first day with all working. Thank you.
Congratulations! I'm glad Apple Support could help-- they've always been kind and helpful when I've called.
And we're still here if you have questions!
