Final Cut Pro 12.0 title download results in numerous duplicates.

FCP 12.0 allows for downloading of additional content (titles, transitions, ...) directly from within FCP. Quite a few of the new titles have duplicates "Closing title" and "Title" seem identical for "Deco", "Expressive", "Gallery", "Geometric" and a few others.

Anybody know where these files are downloaded? Download did not prompt an admin login.

I have tried:

  • /Library/Application Support
  • ~/Library/Application Support
  • ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.FinalCut/*
  • ~/Movies/Motion templates/*
  • Using spotlight as per ChatGPTs suggestion

I have found nothing with a modified/created date today.

As a side note, does anybody know what the folder "/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro" is used for? Contains a lot of .png and .pdf files totalling 1.15 GB with dates from 2007 and 2013 (and no, the machine is not that old nor have the contents been restored from a TM backup).

Computer is a MacBook Pro, M3 Max from end 2023.

In Terminal, I ran:

cd "~/Library/Group Containers/PTN9T2S29T.com.apple.videoProApps/com.apple.FinalCut/Application Support/Cloud Content.localized/Effects"
find . -iname "*deco*"

and got several hits, including ./BD5B625C-18DA-4631-AEF4-BEBBA2C7ADE2/1/1/Deco - Lower Third.motntitle/Contents/Deco - Lower Third.moti

Not sure if that helps, and it seems like it would be very tedious to clean up, considering how many unhelpfully named folders are in that location. But all those folders had a modified date of January 28ᵗʰ, when I downloaded the new content released with Final Cut Pro 12.

As for /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro, all I have in there are my Workspace file and my Command Sets.

These "Closing Title" are stored INSIDE the application bundle itself, they are not downloaded.

Downloaded templates will show you a "Remove Download" option when you right- or control-click on them:

The ones stored inside the application will obviously not; instead, they will act like this (at least if you have Motion installed, like I do):

I could tell you exactly where inside the application bundle these templates are, but since one should never change the contents of the app, I prefer not to dwell on those, lest someone makes their copy of Final Cut Pro cease to work.
