How do I unlock a temporarily locked MacBook account with the correct password?

i went to charge my MacBook and turn it on and when I went to type in my password it said it wasn’t the right password but I never changed it and when I went to change the password to a new password and I restarted the laptop to use the new password it still says it ain’t the right password and now my account is temporarily locked please help I can’t get into my laptop
