Recently in Messages, and Messenger the option of the dropdown virtual keyboard seems to have disappeared and I am no longer able to access it on my Logitech Combo Touch keyboard when using my IPad. Thus if I hit the Return for a new paragraph, the message immediately sends. How do I get the virtual keyboard back—or at least have the option to use Return on my IPad keyboard?

When using the Messages App with an external keyboard, tapping the physical return-key will send the message.
By contrast, the iPad (or iPhone) onscreen keyboard behaves differently. The onscreen return-key adds a new line - whereas tapping the upward-pointing arrow, seen at the end of the text-input field, will send the message.
This is - and has always been - the way that the iOS/iPadOS Messages App has operates.
Until recently, there was a keyboard icon down near the message bar that I could use to call up the keyboard. That icon has disappeared.
What happened to my virtual keyboard option?
