Mac Pro sign-in screen changed, forgot user ID

After the last release, my wife's Mac Pro laptop sign in screen changed and it now asks for both the userid and password, as before when booting up it recognized the userid and only asked for the password. It's been a longtime since apple asked for her userid and she has forgotten it. How do we find it? Is there a way to reset h er userid or find her old one?
