Unable to change the primary email address of my secondary Apple account/id used for iTunes

I two separate Apple ids on each device (iPhone and macBook). One id, say myStoreId@myDomain.com, is used to login to the iTune store and App store. Another one, myMainId@bar.com, is used to operate the phone. This is the id I see at the top of the Settings menu.

I need to change the primary email account associated with myStoreId@foo.com because myDomain.com will expire. My understanding is that I should be able to keep using myStoreId@foo.com as an Apple id even after the myDomain.com expires as long as I add another email address to this account as a primary email. To achieve this, I followed this Apple Support article:

Change your Apple Account primary email address - Apple Support

First, I tried to change the primary email on my iPhone. But I found this method can be used to change the main account (myMainId@bar.com)'s primary email address.

I then tried to follow the other method, visiting the account.apple.com site and logging there as myStoreId@foo.com. Clicking on "Email & Phone Numbers" showed a pop up listing email addresses associated for the account like:

```
myStoreId@foo.com Primary (-)
myOtherEmail@domain3.com (-)
myYetAnother@domain4.com (-)
```

where (-) means a circle with a minus sign in it.

The "Primary" is not clickable. If I click the minus sign, I got an error:

```
Can’t Change Apple Account on the Web
To help protect your account, some of your personal information can’t be changed on the web. To change your Apple Account, use one of your Apple devices that is signed in with this account in the Settings app.
```

The error message seems to suggest and the primary address can be changed only on iPhone or iPad.

On my iPhone, myStoreId@foo.com can be found in the iTunes line, but I can only view the account. I cannot modify it.

So I am stuck. Is there any way to change the primary email address of an Apple id that is only used to manage the iTunes and App Store purchases?

Thank you, Limnos, but I already tried that.

The Settings app on iPhone does not seem to be supporting modifying of the iTunes account. It only supports modifying the main account to sign into the device.

The account.apple.com site does not support changing of the primary email. It just says "use one of your Apple devices that is signed in with this account in the Settings app".

I am afraid of signing into my iTunes account on my iPhone to do this. Is it safe? Doesn't it delete all the apps and data associated with them?

Ooops, I made a mistake in my original post. "myDomain.com" should have been "foo.com". I wish I could edit my post.

because I would like to let the domain foo.com expire.

I am having the same issue.

And it's been happening ever since 2021. I had to create a new iCloud account and merge it under a family plan and max out in fully pay for iCloud storage on both accounts and now unfortunately due to the deactivation I have lost a lot of money over five years just based on the fact that I am paying for two iCloud premium and then tying them together into a family plan however it is only me and the only reason why I'm doing that is because I've been an Apple customer ever since the first iPhone and I have memories of loved ones realistically all I want is to just merge the accounts and unfortunately it's caused me to lose photos and not be able to recall certain iMessages from the past to the fact that I cannot be utilizing both accounts for messaging, it's also duplicated my contacts to where I have over 1 million of them. I have battled and brought this issue up a plethora of times I actually have began to disengage and returned my Apple vision pros in which I got no refund for apparently if you buy those be prepared if they do not function or do not work right you will not get any reimbursement. They will recycle it and that is what they did at the store. I returned for old iPhones that I was holding onto just for the memories of my loved ones that have passed away iPad I watch amongst many other Apple products within the past six months after our escalation and escalation and multiple visits to the store nothing was resolved and even the new iPhone to terabyte Max Pro does not function correctly and continues to duplicate contacts due to this so overall, I have essentially given up with Apple and what I remember the company used to be. I've documented sent videos always did diagnostics try to provide as much data, but I am in the unfortunate same boat and I'm looking towards one other specialist who upon reviewing the case and her 10 year of about 11 years may likely be able to facilitate however unfortunately I'm at a net negative when it comes to my experiences over the past 23 years I've always been an earlier adapter spent tons and tons of money, and even when the issue was escalated to the dev ops team in which I was hoping that I would get a follow up at the very least even if they were not able to correct the issue. It seems that Apple has unfortunately SYED loaded their operations and so many different ways that communication doesn't seem provide and adequate follow up even if it's just to say hey I'm sorry we looked into it and it's not something we're able to fix. I'm gonna hold out for the specialist to reach back out to me hopefully within this next month, however throughout the past years of this experience, I am not too optimistic so I just wanted to at least post here and let you know going through similar things since 2020 and unfortunately, as much as I really was probably the most boastful Apple advocate to everyone around me, including our entire institution and even trying to leverage committees to convert the institution to a Apple OS institution to provide better care for our patients. It seems that Apple has changed. I'm solely posting here to let you know that I'm with you. I hear you and I hope that you were able to find a solution. I've been battling this for many years Veve lost a lot of money and I really truly hope that this does not happen to anyone else that's why I was actually so proactive and providing bug reports data analysis, and everything that I could in the hopes of that but at the end of the day, even if you've only used your Apple vision pros a handful of times and left it at the store as an incentive just to hope for them to contact you back for them to at least see it in the store. The fact that oh my God someone literally left an apple Vision Pro here that was $4000 maybe throughout this hectic day we might want to check in and see where this ticket is going or how our team is engaging or if there's ever been a solution for all over a month returning, I was essentially just told unfortunately we cannot give refunds even though you're in this terrible predicament and all of the items that you held onto even though we told you, we would still give you the refunded price at that time in September not depreciation has happened so you will not be refunded at that original price just sharing my story. Wish you the best.
