How to migrate from M1 Mac Mini to M4 Mac Mini (one monitor, keyboard + mouse)

How can i migrate from my old M1 Mac Mini to my new M4 Mac Mini using only 1 monitor, 1 keyboard and 1 mouse?

The M1 timemachine is a SSD.

I use a 3rd party wireless keyboard and 3rd party wireless mouse however if I need to dig out my apple keyboard and mouse to make the migration easier, I will.

Transferring to a New Mac with TMB:

Use Migration Assistant:

With the Time Machine Backup completed, shut down off the old Mac. Then, plug the keyboard and mouse into the new Mac. Perform the transfer to the new Mac through use of Migration Assistant: Transfer to a New Mac with Migration Assistant - Apple Support.

It is safer and better to copy everything across using drag and drop.

Why? Well over the years most people's Macs accumulate a large amount of rubbish . . . unnecessary items, corrupt files and damaged applications.

Using MA can pollute your pristine new Mac.

This is not a theoretical possibility - it happened to a friend of mine last month. He now has the choice of doing a complete erase and reinstall or living with the problems.

After all, if you were moving to a brand new house you would not take every single item with you and dump it there?

Backup the New Mac, Once Complete:

Once the Migration has completed, check for updates. Keep restarting, until all updates have completed. Once complete, back up the new Mac with its own external hard drive.
