Cannot change Low Power Mode setting on Macbook

Cannot change Low Power Mode setting on 2020 Macbook. Currently on "Never," I wish to change to "Only on Battery" to save power for school, but I can't get past a "Battery is trying to modify your system settings" pop-up, whether I use Touch ID or enter my password, the notification dismisses itself and stays on "Never." Has anyone had this problem?

First step would be to power off the MacBook, then power it back on & try to change the setting

Second step (if above does not work) would be to restart the MacBook in Safe Mode (link below) and try changing the setting while in Safe Mode. If you can change the setting, then simply reboot the MacBook to get out of safe Mode. Then verify whether or not the setting has stayed.
